We're excited to announce another new location for our navigation fun in the Flagstaff area. On Saturday, August 15, we're offering two different courses starting at the Campbell Mesa Trailhead, just 2 miles southeast of I-40 exit 201. Participants can decide to navigate only on foot or with a combination of mountain bike and foot travel. For a shorter outing, we're offering 2-hour courses. Those looking for a longer challenge can choose the 4-hour option. Participants navigate to as many destinations as they can in the given time limit. There are no mandatory controls; you can find as many or as few markers in the given time limit.

Our Campbell Mesa Trailhead map is new to the club this year. The area is covered with an open ponderosa pine forest with little elevation gain. While the area does have some minor hills and water drainages, the courses are mostly flat and open. With three well-developed bike loops in the area, participants have strong attack points they can use for navigation. Participants can choose to travel only on foot or by a combination of mountain bike and foot travel. Please note that none of the controls are located on the trails themselves. Those who travel by mountain bike will still need some travel on foot to reach the final control locations.

The Campbell Mesa Trailhead orienteering courses open at 8:00 AM. The last time to start a 4-hour course is 9:00 AM. The last time to start a 2-hour course is 11:00 AM. No water is available on the course, so we strongly recommend you bring your own water.

The Campbell Mesa Trailhead is a great area to practice your navigation skills on intermediate orienteering courses. We look forward to seeing you at another new orienteering location for the club.
