What we’re about

Join us for photography meetups in Phoenix! Whether you're a beginner or a pro, this group is for those with a passion for capturing and editing stunning images.

My name is Mark, I’m a retired IT Geek, and a pretty decent amateur photographer. I guess you can call me "Semi Pro" as I have sold a few prints and even have had a few paid photoshoots over the years.

Remarkably, most of the digital pictures that I have taken over the past 20 years have been with the preprogrammed ‘Click and Shoot’ menu settings. These scene settings automatically adjust a gazillion options into the camera’s idea of the perfect combination of light, color, exposure, subject and background.

I figure that if I want better photos then I should delve into the manual settings to see where that takes me. With that in mind, I’m starting to play with all the manual options on my Canon T5i and trying to compose awesome photos (starting from scratch so to speak) in the process. I’m at the point where I’m using cheat sheets (there is no way that I’ll remember every scene option) to dial in the best shot and I’m looking to put into practice all the procedures that I’ve learned. In other words, I need practice, but I hate practicing alone. That’s where you guys come into play.

This group is to connect with like-minded individuals, participate in fun photo discussions, learn some photo editing tricks, go on field trips to various locations, and learn from each other in a supportive and inspiring environment. If you’re a beginner, I can help you start taking some wonderful shots to get you going. If you’re an expert, hopefully you won’t mind sharing your knowledge with the rest of us.

I'm envisioning this to be an in-person group, meeting whenever we want and wherever we want. We'll go on photoshoots all over the Greater Phoenix Metro Area like the zoo, botanical gardens, petroglyph sites, car shows, etc. Most of the Meetups will occur during the daylight hours with maybe a few sunset/night photography outings if we have enough people interested in that.

If any of the above appeals to you, that’s fantastic! Please feel free to sign up and reach out to me with any questions/comments/ideas that you may have.

Peace.

Mark
