Full Moon rising over Olana State Historic Site

Join The Photography Connection for an afternoon of photography on the historic Olana grounds, followed by a spectacular full moonrise perfectly aligned behind Olana — viewed from across the Hudson River at Dutchman’s Landing in Catskill. ***PLEASE DO NOT SIGN UP UNLESS YOU ARE SURE YOU CAN GO.

The mansion at Olana is breath-taking. Olana’s 250-acre landscape is free and open every day from 8 AM to sunset. It offers wonderful views and great photography opportunties. Olana State Historic Site.

After we are done exploring the site and grounds we will drive down To Dutchman's Landing where we will be able to view the full moon rising almost directly behind Olana. Dutchman's Landing Park.

We’ll wrap up the night with a casual group dinner at Frank Guido’s Port of Call, just a few minute walk from the landing .Frank Guido Port of Call restaurant

### Agenda - times are approximate

3:00 PM – Meet at Olana State Historic Site

• Address: 5720 NY-9G, Hudson, NY
• Explore and photograph the grounds, including the carriage roads, south lawn, and Ridge Road path for panoramic Hudson River views.

4:45 PM – Head to Dutchman’s Landing Park

• Cross the Rip Van Winkle Bridge into Catskill.
• Drive to the end of Main Street and park in the main lot (310 Main St, Catskill, NY).

5:15 PM – Scout & Set Up

• Head to the north end of the park for the best alignment. Adjust position along the riverbank if needed.

5:35 PM – Gear Check & Test Shots

• Tripods ready, focus on Olana, and exposure settings dialed in.

6:07 PM – Official Moonrise

• Moon will still be below Olana ridge from this vantage.

6:18–6:20 PM – Moon Clears the Ridge

• Begin shooting! Expect the full disk above the roofline by ~6:22 PM. Continue through twilight.

7:15 PM – Group Dinner at Frank Guido’s Port of Call

• Address: 7 Main St, Catskill, NY (0.2 miles from the park).
• Casual, group-friendly, with a wide menu including seafood, pasta, burgers, and salads.
• Reservation will be made for our group — please RSVP so we can get a headcount.

### What to Bring

• Telephoto lens (200–400mm recommended)
• Tripod & remote shutter release (or 2-sec timer)
• Warm layers — October evenings on the river can be chilly
• Comfortable walking shoes
• Headlamp or flashlight for packing up after dark
