About us
This is more than just a weekly photowalk.
It’s a small creative community for photographers and videographers in Tokyo — both hobbyists and professionals — who want to improve by practicing together.
We meet every Wednesday in Shibuya with a specific theme.
Each week we try something different: props, fisheye portraits, small details, slow shutter, contrast, street mood, and more.
But the learning doesn’t only happen on the day.
🔁 How It Works 🔁
Each week follows a creative cycle:
- Before the meetup
- We share inspiration, references, ideas, and tips in our Instagram group chat so everyone can prepare intentionally.
- During the meetup
- We experiment, collaborate, and try new approaches.
- After the meetup
- We share photos/videos, discuss what worked (or didn’t), and begin preparing for the next theme.
This structure helps us grow steadily instead of just showing up randomly each week.
👥 Who This Is For
- Photographers and videographers
- Hobbyists and professionals
- People who enjoy experimenting
- People who want to develop their eye
- People who like learning from others
- Models who want to build their portfolio
- Actors / actresses who want to practice performing in front of the camera
- Creative directors or stylists who want to experiment with concepts, props, and visual ideas
This is not a workshop or a class.
There is no instructor and no lectures.
It’s about practicing, sharing, and improving together.
🎭 Models Welcome
Some themes include portrait or concept shoots.
If you’d like to participate as a volunteer model, you’re very welcome.
All genders and adults (18+) are welcome.
No experience is required — this is for creative practice only.
Modeling is always optional, and respectful behavior is expected at all times.
You’re also welcome to join as both photographer and model.
📍 Location
We usually meet every Wednesday in Shibuya.
Details are posted in each event.

Photography Practice Walk in Tokyo - Theme #5: Slow Shutter or Short video
カフェ・ベローチェ 渋谷二丁目店, 〒150-0002 東京都渋谷区渋谷2丁目14−18 あいおいニッセイ同和損保 渋谷ビル 1階, Shibuya, JPTheme #5: Slow Shutter or Short video using tripod
I want to try another format, this time focused on time instead of subject.
The theme is simple: use a slow shutter or record very short video clips using a tripod.
Instead of chasing moments, we slow things down and let movement happen inside the frame. People passing, traffic, screens, lights, shadows—anything that changes over time becomes the subject. This isn’t about technical perfection or cinematic results.
It’s about patience, framing, and noticing what only appears when you stop moving.📷 Important Note 2
This weekly photowalk is more than just a single event. It’s part of an ongoing creative cycle for photographers and videographers — both hobbyists and professionals — who want to develop their skills by trying new themes and sharing ideas together.
Each week works like this:
- Before the meetup:
- We share inspiration, references, ideas, questions, and tips in our Instagram group chat so everyone can prepare and experiment more intentionally.
- During the meetup:
- We shoot, collaborate, and try new approaches.
- After the meetup:
- We share our photos/videos, discuss what worked (or didn’t), and begin collecting ideas for the following week’s theme.
To get the full experience, please join the Instagram group chat as soon as possible — ideally before the meetup day.
That’s where:
- inspiration is shared
- props / gear ideas are discussed
- location thoughts are exchanged
- preparation happensIf you only show up on the day, you’ll miss half the process.

🗓 Event Outline
Area: Shibuya
Meeting time: 7:00 PM
Meeting point: Cafe Veloce (about a 5-minute walk from Shibuya Station, slightly away from the busiest areas)
Wrap-up: 9:00 PM
After: Drinks / izakaya nearby for anyone who wants to join
If you are late, DM me on instagram.
This isn’t a long walk. If the group gets large, we’ll split into smaller groups so it’s easier to move around—especially in busy areas like Shibuya. We’ll regroup at the original meeting point at the end.📷 Shooting Rules (Very Loose)
- You’re free to take any photos you want
- Shoot using a slow shutter or record very short video clips
- Keep video clips short (a few seconds is enough)
- Share a few photos or clips in the Instagram group DM
No pressure, no competition—just experimenting, learning, and seeing how differently everyone notices the city.
If this works well, we’ll keep the format and change the constraint each time (size, distance, color, theme, etc.).

Photography Practice Walk in Tokyo - Theme #6: No Eye-Level Shots
カフェ・ベローチェ 渋谷二丁目店, 〒150-0002 東京都渋谷区渋谷2丁目14−18 あいおいニッセイ同和損保 渋谷ビル 1階, Shibuya, JPTheme #6: No Eye-Level Shots
I want to try another format, this time focused on breaking our default point of view.
The theme is simple: no photos taken at eye level.
Every shot must be taken either:
- Very low (near the ground), or
- Very high (overhead, arms up, stairs, looking down)
By removing the most comfortable viewpoint, we force ourselves to slow down, move our bodies, and rethink framing. Shibuya instantly feels unfamiliar when you stop seeing it from standing height.
⚠️ Important Note 1
To ensure a good group experience, the event may be canceled if fewer than 5 people are signed up by the day before.📷 Important Note 2

Photography Practice Walk in Tokyo - Theme #7: No Center Subject
カフェ・ベローチェ 渋谷二丁目店, 〒150-0002 東京都渋谷区渋谷2丁目14−18 あいおいニッセイ同和損保 渋谷ビル 1階, Shibuya, JPTheme #7: No Center Subject (Composition Challenge)
I want to try another format, this time focused entirely on composition.
The theme is simple: your main subject cannot be placed in the center of the frame. This is a deliberate constraint to break centering habits. You’ll need to think about balance, negative space, edges, and how the viewer’s eye moves through the image. This is less about what you shoot and more about how you arrange the frame.
For this series of photowalks, we’ll always walk in Shibuya.
The location stays the same on purpose. By returning to the same place and changing only the constraint, we train our eyes to see the same city differently. We’ll create an Instagram group DM and share photos from the session there.

Photography Practice Walk in Tokyo - Theme #8: Signs of Humans (No People)
カフェ・ベローチェ 渋谷二丁目店, 〒150-0002 東京都渋谷区渋谷2丁目14−18 あいおいニッセイ同和損保 渋谷ビル 1階, Shibuya, JPTheme #8: Signs of Humans (No People)
I want to try another format, this time focused on absence instead of presence.
The theme is simple: no people in your photos—only evidence that someone was there.
Think traces, not subjects. Cups left behind, worn stairs, fingerprints, stickers, trash, bent signs, tape, repairs, shadows, reflections—anything that quietly suggests human activity without showing a person.
This isn’t about clever tricks or hidden faces. It’s about observation, restraint, and storytelling through details.
For this series of photowalks, we’ll always walk in Shibuya.
The location stays the same on purpose. By returning to the same place and changing only the constraint, we train our eyes to see the same city differently. We’ll create an Instagram group DM and share photos from the session there.

- No people in the frame
- Look for objects, marks, wear, leftovers, or modifications
- You’re free to shoot any style or subject that fits the theme
- You may bring a small prop if it helps with composition
- Share a few photos in the Instagram group DM
No pressure, no competition—just experimenting, learning, and seeing how differently everyone notices the city.
💡 Recommendation (Optional)
- A zoom lens may make this challenge easier, especially in busy areas. It helps isolate details and avoid people without getting too close.
- Prime lenses are totally fine too—just be prepared to move more and wait.
This is only a suggestion, not a requirement. Use whatever gear helps you stay focused on the idea.
