TALKS
How To Roll Your Own: experiences and observations of creating your own development tools by Jan Oris (https://twitter.com/ixudra)
As we mature as software developers, it becomes more and more important to increase the speed with which we are able to develop or applications. This can be done in a number of different ways, e.g. use a new IDE, use a new framework, pull in a specific package via composer, … .
In the last couple of years however, I have felt the need to take this concept one step further by creating a set of custom PHP packages that are perfectly in line with my own preferences and work flow. These packages have allowed me to significantly speed up the development of my projects by reducing the amount of repetitive actions and boiler plate code.
In this talk, I would like to give you a brief demonstration of the tools and techniques I have used to accomplish this and show you can do the same for your projects, be it Laravel, Symfony, Drupal or Wordpress. Additionally, I will highlight some of the lessons I learned over the last couple of years while taking this approach.
Speaker: Jan Oris is a freelance PHP developer who has over 3 years of experience in PHP web development and currently has his own web development company called Ixudra. He focusses primarily on Laravel web development and puts a lot of focus and attention towards unit testing and code optimisation.

Creating a dashboard with Laravel and Vue by Freek Van der Herten (https://twitter.com/freekmurze)
On the wall mounted TV in our office a dashboard it displayed. At a glance we can see what the current tasks for each member of our team are, which important events are coming up, which music is playing, if it will rain in the next 30 minutes, ... and much more.
In this 25 minute demo I'll explain how we leveraged both Laravel and Vue to build the dashboard. After demonstrating the dashboard itself we'll take a deep dive in the code. We'll take a look at the entire flow: the grid system, broadcast events, the Pusher service, some cool Vue mixins and much more. After this talk you'll be able to setup a dashboard using our code available at https://github.com/spatie/dashboard.spatie.be
Speaker: Freek Van der Herten is a partner and developer at Spatie (https://spatie.be (https://spatie.be/)), a Antwerp based company that specializes in creating web apps. After hours he writes about modern PHP and Laravel on his blog: https://murze.be (https://murze.be/). When not coding he's probably rehearsing with his kraut-rock band ( https://jarenduren.bandcamp.com/ ).
Talk Length: 30 minutes
