TALKS
So you are not using an ORM yet? by Mike Simonson (https://twitter.com/_mikesimonson)
Where is the truth in sentences like "ORMs are slow" or "SQL is insecure"? We will walk through the reasons that shaped ORM architecture, their potential and limitations. After this talk you will be in a better position to choose the best fit for you and your next application.
Speaker: Mike is an enthusiastic - talkative - and open-minded knowledge-addict.
He started the Brussels PHP user group and is now the maintainer of doctrine/migrations and contributor to many other open source projects.
Length: 45 min
The power of the soft skill by Kenneth Schabrechts (https://twitter.com/Agilix_)
Every day developers ask themselves what they can do to improve their technical expertise. Which comes to no surprise seeing the nature of this industry. However it is important to focus some of your time on training and learning to use your soft skills. This will help you be a better developer. Skills like communication, collaboration and problem solving skills will give you an edge when trying to get into a certain company or when trying to obtain that contract you always wanted. During this talk you will be shown some of the most vital skills needed for developers to reach that goal. Besides the overview we will also dive into methods by which you can actively work on improving said skills.
Speaker: Kenneth Schabrechts (http://agilix.be/) is a freelance developer who also has experience as project manager. Having seen both sides of the coin he's fascinated by what drives both sides and bridging the gap. When developing he's mostly focused on the back-end of the applications. When not developing you can find him at the gym, a meetup or a coding dojo helping the next generation.
Length: 30 min.
