19:00 - Pipedrive - Microservices & Anarchy by Kristo Kaiv
We moved to microservice architecture and docker based application layer a while ago.
Quickly the number of services we run in production reached a number where nobody was able to tell how many we have and what exactly they do. This was not the goal but it enabled the goal what we had been thriving for which was the independence of the product teams. We wanted the teams to depend on other teams code bases as little as possible, deploy often and move quickly.
At the start all teams were writing code in a relatively similar manner and used the same practices as they had gotten used to, this, however, started differing between teams more and more as time passed. We had entered a new world where a lot of discussions did not revolve that much about how to run microservices but if and how much we should regulate on the common standards, coding styles, frameworks or even languages. This talk reflects the paths we have chosen and the compromises and reasoning behind it.
KeyWords: OpenStack, Docker, Consul, RabbitMQ, Kafka, Github, Jenkins
19:30 - Break - drinks and snacks
20:00 - Kiwi.com - How we do it by Tomas Papez and Yurii Kyrychynskyi
Our talk will be about Kiwi.com infrastructure and developers experience. Were are we today and how our tech stack looks like? As you maybe know we're on bare metal (Hetzner) and AWS but we decided to migrate most of our workloads to GCP/OVH and we will talk about our reasons and how are we preparing for this migration - from planning to tooling and how it helped us in simplifying team and service onboarding.
KeyWords: Terraform, Vault, Kubernetes, Cloud, GCP, GKE, Rancher, Docker, Gitlab CI, Cookiecutter
