Engineering Meetup: From Developer to a Leader
Details
One possible career path for engineers is leadership: technical leadership, people management, or both. Typically you’d start by mentoring other engineers, facilitating meetings and leading projects. Before you know it, you’ll be responsible for a team, managing people’s growth and determining team priorities rather than writing code.
For many software engineers, growing as an individual contributor (IC) could be a more appropriate path. In our next Pipedrive Talks Prague meetup, we will help you decide which path is better for you. If you’re leaning towards the leadership path, our speakers will help you succeed in your new role. 🚀

Talks and speakers:
Talk 1 - Growing developers into leaders
- Lukáš Pastuszek, Engineering Manager at Pipedrive
- How can a company create an environment that supports the growth of developers into leaders? What can we do to make it easier for people to gain the leadership skills and what support can we provide so they are not afraid to take steps into this career path?
Talk 2 - Three tiers of tech lead skills
- Honza Široký, CTO at Mews
- What are the mandatory skills that every tech lead must have? Which competencies they can survive without for a while, but eventually should acquire? And what are the nice to have skills that elevate a tech lead to another level?
Talk 3 - There are no one-way career routes
- Jiří Šilhán, Software Engineering Manager at SolarWinds
- Everyone kept telling me that switching to a management role is an irreversible move, but for me, it wasn't the case. I'll share my experience and learning from going from an individual contributor to a manager/leader and back.
