FRANK (BIG KAHUNA) THE ADMIN: This class from when it has been posted before this has gotten major praise from our members, it's worth doing.

Free Seminar: Compassionate Communication Introduction/Practice Gathering Please join us as we learn about and practice Compassionate Communication (also known as Non-Violent Communication or NVC) skills in a safe, nonjudgmental and open environment. Compassionate Communication is a communication process that allows individuals to connect by understanding feelings and unmet needs that underlie behavior. The emphasis in this approach is on empathy and connection through compassion; the method to learn the skills involves concrete activities and practice.

Our theme for July is An Experiential Introduction to Compassionate Communication. Some words from Rick about what to expect:

"So much of what we've done at the Monthly Gathering of Compassionate Pittsburgh has had to do with writing. At each session, we've taken a considerable amount of time to write following the prompts on the theme for the day. There's a good reason for this. Writing is a reflective practice that helps us slow down mentally and reexamine our choices.

The organization of this session is different: it builds up the core elements of Compassionate Communication through many little interactions with others, like learning a dance through trying out individual steps and then putting it together. The format is "do first, then talk about what and why”. The latter half will be role playing through little situations in life, like the few brief words you might share with a clerk at a store, or the greeting and small talk with a neighbor on a street, the short conversation with a customer at work resolving a business matter, or a quick phone call to a partner to make dinner plans.

Bring a playful spirit and a willingness to try something new-- we look forward to seeing you there."- Rick Smith

This is a free gathering that meets every 1st Saturday of the month from 1-3 p.m. at the Homewood library, Meeting Room 1 or 2. No prior experience with NVC is required.

This event is an effort of Compassionate Pittsburgh, whose mission is to grow a community of individuals practicing NVC in order to improve our city. The leader for this event will be Rick Smith.

Please join us! If not this Saturday, then one in the near future!
