Map and Compass Orienteering at Pine Ridge Park

Details
In conjunction with the annual general meeting of the Western PA Orienteering Club on November 11, a score-o course for all skill levels will be available. The course will have approximately 40 controls. Some controls will be placed at beginner level, some at intermediate level and some at advanced level. Preregistration for the score-o can be done using the preregistration page until November 7. Registration may also be done at the event on November 11. The way this event will work is described below:
Registration may be done at Pine Lodge from 10 am until 12 noon.
There will not be any starts from 10 am to 11:30 am. A Mass Start is planned for 11:30 am. Participants in the mass start will be given their maps at 11 am and allowed 30 minutes to study the map. Then they will have 2 hours (120 minutes) to find as many controls as they can. EVERYONE must return to Pine Lodge by 2 pm. Anyone returning after 1:30 pm will be penalized for being late. The penalty is 9 points per minute (or partial minute) late.
If you cannot make it in time for the mass start, you will be allowed to start individually on the course from 11:30 to 12:30; however, you must still return to Pine Lodge no later than 2 pm. If that means that you get less than 2 hours to find controls, so be it. Also, there will be no designated time for map study for those who start individually. You may study the map as long as you want before you leave, as long as you start before 12:30.
If you are a true beginner and need instruction, be sure to allow yourself 30 minutes for registration and instruction before you will get started.
Results will list the participants in three groups: Newbie - those who have done only the Beginner (White) course before or never did orienteering previously; Intermediate - those who have done Novice (Yellow) and/or Intermediate (Orange) courses but not Advanced courses previously; and Expert - those who have done one or more Advanced courses (Brown, Green, or Red) previously.
