Map-based Scavenger Hunt in Arsenal Park during Open Streets

Details

During the June 30th Open Street event in Lawrenceville, happening from 9 AM to 1 PM, the Western Pennsylvania Orienteering Club will be offering a map-based scavenger hunt in nearby Arsenal Park, where participants will be tasked to find 5 or 6 orienteering-style checkpoint flags (aka "controls") in sequence and return back to starting point.

The starting point will be at 39th St and Butler St, where participants can get a map that has marked on it the locations of the checkpoints that the participants will be tasked to find. This activity is open to all, anytime between 9 AM and 1 PM, during the duration of the Open Streets event.

Purpose of this exercise is to familiar oneself with the sport of "orienteering", a map-based outdoor activity that is popular in Scandinavian and Eastern European countries.

The Western Pennsylvania Orienteering Club currently hosts several scheduled meets in state, county, and city parks. The full schedule can be found at www.wpoc.org

Participants may be required to fill and sign a waiver.
For those under age of 18, parent/guardian may have to fill the waiver.
