ORIGIN STORY:
As a new resident to the area, I first walked into The Pizza Press in the summer of 2023 looking to get some lunch, but also to familiarize myself with the food options in that part of town. The person behind the counter who served me that day was Mimi, the owner. After a friendly getting-to-know-you chat, she invited me to come back the following Wednesday to play chess. "Chess?" I said. "I only know checkers." "Don't worry" she said. "We'll teach you." Fast forward two years later, and I still return every Wednesday night to eat pizza and play chess. And an ancient board game that I had little prior knowledge of or interest in, has since taken over my life. Lord help me.

THE PRESENT:
As a way to give back to Mimi and the community feeling and space that she continues to provide through her business (which has been difficult to sustain since the Covid-19 pandemic), I started to formulate the idea of creating an "official" way to get the word out about Wednesday night, besides just word-of-mouth (I'm someone who doesn't use conventional social media). This meetup page is the start of these efforts.
So, if you are reading these words and are looking for a fun night to hang out, eat good food, and play (or learn) the "Royal Game," I cordially invite you to Pizza Press Chess.
