What we’re about
IN PERSON EVENTS have begun, check them out! We will continue to have a monthly meeting online for conversation and support.
We plan to eventually get back to having monthly potlucks to share a meal where every dish promotes our own health, and the health of the planet. For optimum health, our potlucks feature nutrient dense plant-based whole foods: beans and lentils, fruits and vegetables, whole grains, nuts and seeds. We also encourage dishes to be SOS-free, (no added salt, oil, or sugar). A whole-food plant-based diet is also a low-carbon diet, and choosing to eat this way is one of the most effective actions an individual can take to lower their carbon footprint.
We discuss the details of the food we brought to the potluck, share recipes, and go around the room each time to share our personal stories, discoveries, and challenges. It is such a pleasure to gather with other like-minded people for a meal where every dish is truly health-promoting, everyone is cheering you on towards your health goals, and where we can learn and share about the connections between food and climate change.
We occasionally have food demonstrations or hands-on experiences with kitchen tools, and like to share ways to make food prep easier and more efficient.

Register at: https://nwveg.org/upcoming-eventsWe are cancelling our usual monthly Zoom meeting in order to allow members in the Portland area to attend Dr. Michael Greger's lecture at the Unity Church on his new book, "How Not to Age". The following announcement is from the NW Veg website, https://nwveg.org/upcoming-events
"We are thrilled to confirm that we will have Dr. Michael Greger here live in Portland on May 28th to present from his new book How Not to Age. Dr. Greger is the founder of Nutritionfacts.org, producer of more than 2,000 videos on virtually every aspect of healthy eating, and author of 10 books.
There are multiple processes in our body that lead to aging. How Not to Age looks at each of these processes, and how good nutrition can disrupt each one of them. The book provides evidence-based methods to preserve the body functions to help keep you feeling healthy and youthful, both physically and mentally.
Dr. Greger will be signing books, but we will not have books for sale at the event. Please purchase your book ahead of time and bring it with you if you want him to sign it.
We are now asking that people register for this event so we do not exceed the venue capacity of 350. Please follow this link to register https://nwveg.org/upcoming-events and tell us how many will be in your party. The event is free, but if you could donate $5-10 at the door or donate online to help pay for the venue and support Northwest VEG, we would greatly appreciate it.
Dr. Greger is an engaging speaker, with a fast-paced, humorous style packed with information. Last time he was in Portland, he drew a crowd of nearly 500. You won’t want to miss this presentation.
