🏕️ Vegan Camping Trip – Sand Dunes Pool + Great Sand Dunes + Crestone Hike

(It’s fine to arrive Saturday morning if that works better for you)

📍 Location: Sand Dunes Pool & Campground, Hooper, CO

📄 Trip Overview

Join us for a long weekend of camping, soaking, hiking, and vegan potlucks in the San Luis Valley! We’ll use Sand Dunes Pool as our basecamp, explore Great Sand Dunes National Park, and take a group hike in Crestone.

Everyone will book their own campsite, but we’ll coordinate to be near each other for shared meals and group activities.

🛏️ Camping Details

When you RSVP “Yes,” please also comment if you’re fully committed or likely but not 100%, so I can track numbers.

I reserved a block of sites under the name Wolton so we’re grouped together. If you stay all three nights fri-mon am then it will be $75 and you get a discount on your hot spring pool entry.

They allow cancellations up to 3 days before arrival.

Tent campers get half off hot springs entry with their site payment.

🐕 Dogs

Dogs are welcome at the campground.

If you have a dog, you cannot take them into the adults-only soaking area.

Dogs can be leashed under the trees by the main pool.

🥗 Food

All group meals will be 100% vegan — no meat, dairy, eggs, or honey.

We’ll do optional potluck-style or cook together dinners, with shared tables for those who want to join.

You’re responsible for your own breakfasts and lunches, but we can coordinate sharing if that's desired.

We’ll have an in-person planning meet-up on Sunday, August 24 at 3:00 PM at Lotus Moon Thai in Boulder (Pearl & 28th) to talk carpools, meal ideas, and activity timing.

Comment your commitment level (“Yes – coming for sure” or “Probably – still checking”) so I can gauge site numbers and whether you would arrive Friday evening or Saturday morning.

I’ll confirm when the Wolton sites are reserved so you can call the campground and grab one.

🚗 Travel

The Sand Dunes Pool is about 4 hours from Boulder. Carpools can be discussed at the planning meeting or in the comments.
