The brain is most active, and receptive, when at play. But getting that first laugh out of an audience can seem like a daunting challenge!
Bringing an element of `funny' into your speech fosters a special connection with your audience which a more serious speech can never achieve!
Here are some elements towards giving a funny speech, which you might even like to try tonight!
- Relax to give the appearance of confidence. The audience WANTS to laugh and engage with you.
- People do funny things all the time. Telling stories about strange things which have happened to you is the basic essence of `bring funny'. It's really as simple as that. You don't need to know any jokes or anything like that, because that isn't what it's about, but that might help as a prop!
That's all you need to do to be funny, but of course, you need practice.
That is where Port Melbourne Toastmasters comes in! Some toastmasters are actually far more funny than professional comedians at comedy shows, so do come along and bring friends! This is going to be an incredible night!
