Hi! My name is Charlotte. When the "trouble sleeping" I had experienced on and off six years ago slowly transformed into unrelenting nightly chronic insomnia, I didn't feel like I had many resources or sources of support. I couldn't find any insomnia support groups, maybe because insomnia is treated as a symptom of a physical or mental illness that should go away as the root problem is addressed. Although insomnia is definitely a symptom of many illnesses, I find this approach to be reductive. Insomnia can occur inexplicably, and it can also linger even after illness is treated. I am forming this community to be a safe space to commiserate, discuss treatments such as medication and CBT-I, share hope and build community. Anyone is welcome here <3
