What makes a life go well? A small philosophy discussion
Details
What would have to be true for you to say that someone’s life is going well? Is it enough to feel happy, or do friendship, achievement and meaning matter even when they are difficult?
Join Portland Philosophy Table for a guided conversation about the good life. We will begin with a few ways of approaching the question, then test them against concrete examples and our own intuitions. The aim is to leave with a clearer view of what matters and why.
We are a small circle of friends and professionals in our twenties and thirties, welcoming a few new people to the table. Expect thoughtful conversation, friendly disagreement and enough structure to develop ideas together. No philosophy background or advance reading is required.
The discussion is guided by Maryus, who was born in Russia and has a BA in philosophy. He earned his master’s degree in physics at Columbia University.
