This practice is for those that recognize the need for a skillful practice to develop the capacity to be present to altered states of consciousness. If you have ever had e.g., a medicine journey hijacked by mental content, or were overwhelmed by intolerable memories, etc. you know what I mean.

It is particularly apropos if you understand tantra to mean being present with your experience, as opposed to separating or transcending it.
