Lean on Pete
• What we'll do Grab a drink and let's go see a movie! Bring friends and some good conversation to discuss the film, its characters, the production and more. The Living Room Theater is the location of our weekly Monday meetup. Most movies they play are independent, foreign, artistic with an occasional blockbuster. We meet Tuesday evenings to take advantage of their $6 Merry Movie special. They have weekday showings of all their movies in the 7:00 hour, and those are the showings we're shooting for. If you see something coming up there that you'd like to recommend as our Living Room movie of the week, message me or post it on the board by Wednesday the previous week Lean on Pete From acclaimed filmmaker Andrew Haigh (Weekend; 45 Years), and based on the beloved novel by Willy Vlautin, comes Lean on Pete—a deeply moving story about love, loneliness, family, and friendship, told through the unique prism of one boy’s connection to a very special racehorse. Fifteen-year-old Charley Thompson (Charlie Plummer) arrives in Portland, Oregon with his single father Ray (Travis Fimmel), both of them eager for a fresh start after a series of hard knocks. While Ray descends into personal turmoil, Charley finds acceptance and camaraderie at a local racetrack where he lands a job caring for an aging Quarter Horse named Lean On Pete. The horse’s gruff owner Del Montgomery (Steve Buscemi) and his seasoned jockey Bonnie (Chloë Sevigny) help Charley fill the void of his father’s absence—until he discovers that Pete is bound for slaughter, prompting him to take extreme measures to spare his new friend’s life. Charley and Pete head out into the great unknown, embarking on an odyssey across the new American frontier in search of a loving aunt Charley hasn’t seen in years. They experience adventure and heartbreak in equal measure, but never lose their irrepressible hope and resiliency as they pursue their dream of finding a place they can call home. What we're about

    Public Group

We're the original and largest film club in Oregon. Setup like a book club, we select one movie and meet to watch and then discuss the film. We prefer a variety of new and old films; which means we will meet at movie theaters, private homes and special locations for screenings.

The group meets at predetermined location for a particular film. Come to one or come to them all. There is no requirement to attend all meetings. Movies and views are diverse. It is always a great time to meet new people and to simply get to 'see' Portland in its finest.

The real enjoyment in the group is being able to sit around a few tables to chat about the films we have watched together and learn the incredible truth of differing and diverse opinions. Many of our discussions help others decide on whether they want to watch a movie or not. Join us for what is usually a pleasant and laughable time.
