Portland Kayaking Community (etc.)

The St. Johns Bridge is a beautiful place to launch, and there are some interesting things to check out in this industrial area of North Portland.

I have extra kayaks (with paddles & life jackets) that I can bring, or bring your own & join us. A $25-40 donation is requested per kayak, but if you are facing financial hardship please let me know. If you need to use one of my kayaks, just make a request in a post, and then be sure to message me and remain in good communication to confirm your attendance.

We will meet at the end of Pittsburgh Ave, at the pedestrian dock just south of the St. Johns Bridge. Restrooms are located to the north side of the bridge by the boat ramp and main parking area (which is a bit of a hike - it's easier to drive over).

Please dress for the weather and avoid wearing cotton if possible. Also a change of shoes & pants/shorts is always a good idea. Often I like to go to the food carts in St. Johns afterwards.

Somewhat faster kayaks, and/or a bit of paddling strength & stamina are recommended for this paddle. It's not difficult, but we will need to at least keep a moderate pace in order to get up to the narrows & back. Feel free to post any questions you may have about this, or message me.

Please bring a headlamp or two if you have one handy. It's getting darker earlier these days.
