Kayak camping - Sand Island, St. Helens OR
Details
Kayak Camping - We will be camping on Sand Island and exploring Multnomah channel on Saturday May 30th. This is a really beautiful spot, and the best part is that it's close to shore and suitable for beginners with some paddle experience and it's an excellent opportunity to gain experience & skills for such trips if you are interested. Paddle boards, canoes, etc. are welcome,
We are asking for a $10 fee to cover a group meal on Saturday night.
I have extra kayaks I can bring for people who don't have their own. Contact Tate directly for more info.
We will be loading all of our gear into our kayaks, paddling out to Sand Island and spending the night there. You will need to bring your own sleeping bag, tent (or hammock) food, plate, silverware, water / beverages and if possible, immersion gear (dry suit or wetsuit). No potable water is available on the island.
We have a group site reserved but if you prefer more privacy you can reserve your own site. Please let me know so I can increase number of available spots.
Camp fires are allowed and wood is available for $5
Bathroom is available though I think it’s a pit toilet.
Our group campsite will be non smoking and smoking is only allowed in reserved campsites.
Campsite check in is 1:00 pm. Check out is 11:00 am.
There may be an optional paddle Sunday if people are interested.
Overnight parking is free and seems to be fairly safe. Most of the people who park there are other paddlers, fishermen & professional shellfish harvesters. No passes are required.
Please support our group and consider making a small $10 donation once per season to support the annual meetup expenses and other costs. Cash or venmo donation @Portland-Kayaking to pay for gas, equipment, organizing, safety, instruction, etc.
