About Your Host:
Sen Hirano is a passionate home cook who honed his techniques to not only speed up his own meal prep but also to help prepare meals for gatherings of up to 100 people. He believes that confidence with a knife is the foundation of joyful and efficient cooking and is excited to share his methods with you.
You'll leave this class with the skills to:

Feeling slow in the kitchen? Frustrated by dull knives? Join Sen Hirano for a hands-on 1.5-hour workshop to sharpen your skills! This class is a friendly, judgment-free zone perfect for absolute beginners and home cooks looking to level up.
What We'll Do:
- Master Knife Skills: We'll dive into proper grip, hand placement (the "claw grip!"), essential cuts like the dice and julienne, and fast, efficient ways to tackle everyday vegetables (think carrots, onions, potatoes, and peppers!).
- Create & Share Soup: We'll turn our perfectly prepped veggies into a delicious soup to enjoy together at the end of our session. It's a great chance to chat and meet other local food lovers!
- Learn to Sharpen & Maintain: I'll demystify the art of knife sharpening and show you how to care for your most important kitchen tool.
What to Bring (Hint: Nothing is Required!)
I will have plenty of knives and cutting boards for everyone to use, so you don't need to bring anything to participate.
However, you are absolutely welcome to:
- Bring your own knife: If you have a favorite knife you'd like to practice with or, more importantly, get sharpened, please bring it along! This is the perfect chance to give a dull blade a new life.
- An apron, if you like.
