What we're about

Portland Young Meditators is a meditation, mindfulness and social group for those who identify in some way as "young" - most of our members are in their 20s and 30s, but all are welcome. The idea of focusing on age is not meant to be exclusionary, but rather to promote community, connection and inspiration among an age group that is often in the minority at many meditation centers.

The group is a way to connect, share space, presence, ideas and practice with others who are interested in meditation and mindfulness, community and social engagement, regardless of what tradition you may practice in.

Our practice centers on a weekly "social meditation" where we explore relating with each other in a way that is more mindful and more vulnerable. This practice starts with a silent seated meditation, followed by a group discussion. Instruction and guidance is available during the silent portion for any who are new to meditation or would like a Shambhala-style refresher (please arrive a little early so we can point you in the right direction).

Our weekly practice is often followed by continued socializing over drinks and food at a nearby pub. We also hold potlucks, campouts, and other group activities outside the weekly schedule to satisfy our collective desire for mindful relaxation and adventure. New members are welcome to join us at any of these events!
