How and why Datadog is moving from cloud-managed to self-managed Postgres
Details
Datadog runs hundreds of PostgreSQL clusters across multiple cloud providers. As usage grew in both breadth (more clusters) and depth (bigger, hotter workloads), differences among provider offerings created real pain for app developers and database operators. To address this, Datadog built a self-managed Postgres platform on Kubernetes—now its default way to run Postgres—delivering a single, scalable, reliable, and cost-effective foundation.
In this talk, Nick (Datadog) will cover:
- The good and the bad of cloud-managed Postgres
- What Datadog’s Postgres-on-Kubernetes platform looks like
- How an entire region moved from 100% cloud-managed to 100% self-managed
- Lessons learned (the wins and the trade-offs) from running Postgres at scale
- What’s next on the platform roadmap
Join us to see how Datadog unified Postgres operations while gaining reliability, flexibility, and cost control.
