Phil was High Performance Director for two National Sporting Federations and has extensive experience of developing, coaching and managing Olympic and Paralympic Gold Medallists and World Champion standard athletes. He understands synergies between elite level sport, business and academia. He sees the big picture and can function seamlessly as a strategic leader and team builder, while equally able to work on the management of output delivery.
A former international competitive athlete (cycling) and county level chess player – Phil brings this experience into the strategic requirements of his roles. He has travelled, worked, lived and competed in over 40 countries across 6 continents and brings his extensive business and other networks to his roles and projects.
He is also an experienced CEO, an environmental scientist, project manager, renewable energy engineer and electrical engineer; with a PhD in Environmental Systems and Control Engineering. He has experience of working with a diverse number of stakeholders and businesses in the public and private sector; with a strong academic publication and research background.
Phil has commercialised research and knowledge exchange between industry and academia. He set-up and ran three SMEs and has broad ranging professional experience of management in business and sport with strong team building and leadership skills. He has managed and directed multi-million pound projects and budgets. He has co-written successful multi-million pound European structural funding bids (ERDF & INTERREG).
