What we’re about

Background:
Although Media Literacy education has been developed during the last few years, it is usually directed at young people. It only sometimes addresses the needs of parents responsible for supporting their children's media literacy.

Aim:
SOUK (Shout Out UK) aims to resolve the policy gap regarding the limited media literacy initiatives targeting parents by running a course specifically targeted for parents, carers, and community groups in Redbridge. This course will assist you in acquiring practical skills and knowledge to safeguard and engage your children's online activity.

What will I learn?
How to identify fact from fiction.
Understand new and emerging social media sites and their role in online radicalisation.
How to challenge narratives of extreme ideologies and start the conversation with your young person about what they see online.
How to make a referral if you are concerned about a young person.
How to share the tools and knowledge on how to assist young people with you wider network.
Ultimately you will leave this course with practical tools and strategies to safeguard your children from modern 21st-century threats.

Note:
This course is aimed at parents, carers and professionals based in Redbridge, if you are a parent and you do not live in Redbridge but you are interested in this course, please contact: contact@shoutoutuk.org.
