Ghosts of Williamstown
Details
Just when you thought a Melbourne winter couldn’t get anymore chilling 👻 …
Tonight we take a cold, ghostly walk around the streets of ‘King William’s town’, Victoria’s original capital.
By lamp light we’ll wander dark, eerie alleyways and long-abandoned burial grounds, hearing ghostly stories as we make our way to Victoria’s oldest morgue (located directly by the water, where chopped up autopsy remains could be discarded directly to the sea! 🥩) As we step indoor, be on guard for a cold hand on your shoulder as we hear some of its more gruesome tales.
We’ll see the Timeball Tower. Built in 1849 from local bluestone, it operated as a lighthouse before evolving into a ‘timeball’ operation in 1861, serving a vital function for shipmasters to calibrate marine navigational equipment. One of few functional timeball towers that remain in the world.
King William’s town was once alive with drunken sailors, condemned convicts and ‘night time activity’. It’s a den of secrets and we’ll hear some of the more ghostly ones on this specialised evening walking tour, conducted by Lantern Ghost Tours – a paid supplier.
