The Solar System Trail 🐕

This morning we'll set out to stroll the universe, one planet at a time, along Melbourne's Solar System Trail.

We’ll meet at the Sun sculpture (near the St Kilda skate park) at the south end of St Kilda Beach. From the sun we follow the foreshore trail north to visit the eight planets, accurately scaled to size and distance. It'll take us around 1.5 hours to reach 'Pluto' at Sandridge Beach.

After strolling 'billions' of kilometres (well, on a scale of 1:1 billion) as far as Pluto, some may want to finish the walk here and we'll say our goodbyes. But for anyone keen on a round trip, and a great lunch, we'll turn around and head back to the Sun.

We'll stop for lunch at dog-friendly Ms Felix cafe. The Solar System Trail itself is dog-friendly, so you're encouraged to bring the doggies along, however the entire trail requires dogs to remain on leash.

If you're doing the return walk it's 12 kms, or leave us in Port Melbourne and you've still clocked up a healthy 6km on what, hopefully, will be a fine weather day.

Getting here: We commence at the Sun, which is near St Kilda Skate Park. You can reach the start point on public transport (take a number 96 tram towards St Kilda, get off at Luna Park and it's about 10 mins walk).
