World Product Day - Getting real on commercial acumen
Details
Keeping it controversial for World Product Day 2024, Melissa and Anthony will riff on the themes raised by Brian Chesky in the now notorious ‘Airbnb and the end of product managers’ discourse.
Melissa will talk about her journey from a human-centred UX professional to a business-aware product leader, and how she overcame her FOMA (Fear Of MAths), with plenty of practical tips along the way. Anthony will then talk about how to escape the product owner trap - how to expand your influence from delivery into the wider business side of product management.
Melissa Firth
Melissa is a "fractional" CPO/CXO and executive coach for product leaders. With over 25 years' digital media and tech experience, she has worked in B2C, B2B, B2B2C and public sector, and in organisations of every size - from two-person startup through high-growth SaaS, to enterprise and public sector innovation, product development and transformation. She loves nothing more than helping founders, teams and businesses reach their growth goals.
Anthony Marter
Anthony is the Chief Product Officer at Solarzero, driving transformational change in the NZ energy market, as well as transforming the organisation to be customer led with a product focus. Anthony has been involved in the product community for over 9 years, firstly as an organiser for the Auckland product management meetup group and 2 years ago with a small group of dedicated product professionals founded Product Aotearoa to connect the broader NZ community together. He is on a mission to help New Zealand product people find their tribe and grow their skills, and by doing this help the New Zealand tech sector grow and thrive.
