Profs & Pints San Francisco: The Art of Negotiation

Details

Profs and Pints San Francisco presents: “The Art of Negotiation,” a practical and hands-on seminar on striking the best deals in every aspect of life, with Jason Myrowitz, associate professor of business at Northern Arizona University and veteran negotiation trainer.

The ability to negotiate isn’t just for high-stakes boardrooms. It’s a skill that pays off when asking for a raise, checking into a hotel, or simply splitting chores at home. And many of us, it turns out, know much less than we think about how to strike a deal.

Join Jason Myrowitz, an award-winning teacher and researcher with more than two decades of experience in the negotiation field, for a talk that will make you rethink how you go about seeking to get what you want.

Dr. Myrowitz will challenge the popular perception that the best negotiators use aggression, pressure, and manipulation to take advantage of their counterparts. He’ll demonstrate how instead the road to success comes from prioritizing both outcomes and relationships.

Using real-world examples, he’ll show you how to reframe tension, ask better questions, and avoid common traps like making too many concessions out of discomfort or trying to emulate certain political figures.

Through a blend of research-backed insights and humor, Dr. Myrowitz will share strategies that you can use immediately. You’ll learn how to set your walk-away price, how to signal value, and how to defuse overly competitive negotiators.

Whether you're buying a car, managing a team, or just trying to get your toddler into pajamas, this session will help you navigate conflicts with less drama, greater confidence, and tools that have been proven to work. (Tickets available only online. Advance tickets: $13.50 plus processing fees. Doors: $17, or $15 with a student ID, plus processing fees. Doors open at 5:30 and the talk begins at 6:30. Parking available nearby at the Mason O'Farrell garage.)
