About us
Going to the movies used to be a thing I did by myself. But lately I've rediscovered how much fun it is to go with friends and to talk about it with them afterwards. So, here we are!
Providence Movie Club is a group where we'll go to a movie and then grab a drink after it's over to hang out and chat. I'm pretty omnivorous with my movie taste, so one week we could see something at the Avon, and the next be front and center at Morbius. Post-movie will change as well and hit bars, coffee shops, breweries, boba tea places, etc.
Don't worry about being a film expert or anything. I imagine conversations will go like most book clubs where you talk about the book for seven minutes and then everyone drops it.

Frankenhooker at AS220 Black Box

In Frankenhooker, after his fiancée is decapitated by a lawnmower, medical school dropout Jeffrey Franken attempts to resurrect her by assembling the body parts of prostitutes, unwittingly creating a nymphomanical monster.
Join us on Sunday, March 8th for a 7:00pm screening of Frankenhooker at the AS220 Black Box theater. Doors open at 6:45pm, and we'll start the movie around 7:00ish. For anyone interested, we'll go to the AS220 bar afterwards to hang out (or someplace else downtown depending on the mood).
This is a ticketed event, and tickets are $7 each. You can pay with cash or card at the door. AS220 will soon have a preorder link up as well if you want to go down that route. Feel free to drop a comment if you get lost or have any questions. The Black Box theater is located at 95 Empire Street in downtown Providence, to the right of the AS220 bar.

After Hours at The Space
The Space, 171 Chestnut St, Suite 200, Providence, RI, USIt's a doubly special event! For one, we're back at The Space—a really lovely location we screened Perfect Blue at in December. For two, it's SKYLAR'S PICK. Back in November, a few of us played a Movie Club History trivia game, and whoever won would get to pick a movie of their choice to play at Movie Club. Skylar won the game and his choice is Martin Scorsese's After Hours from 1985!
In After Hours, Griffin Dunne stars as Paul Hackett, an office worker who experiences a series of misadventures while attempting to make his way home from Manhattan's SoHo district during the night.
Join us on Friday, March 13th for a 7:00pm screening of After Hours at The Space. Doors open at 6:45pm, and we'll start the movie around 7:00ish. For anyone interested, we'll probably go someplace afterwards to keep the night going.

Movie Club Mixer at Trinity Brewhouse
Trinity Brewhouse, 186 Fountain St, Providence, RI, USSince the February mixer had to be rescheduled to March 1st, we technically get two mixers this month! This one I'm excited about because recently—literally last month—Trinity Brewhouse reopened with new owners, a new chef, and a new brewer. So let's check it out!
The mixer will start at 7:00pm at Trinity Brewhouse on Wednesday, March 18th. It'll go on as long as people are around, though the official end time will be 10:00pm. I'll have a pile of name tags on a table for everyone to help differentiate who's there for the mixer and who's just there.
You'll be able to order cocktails, beer, and non-alcoholic drinks at the bar, and the whole Trinity food menu will also be available to order. I'm not sure yet if we'll be upstairs or in the newly-renovated downstairs area yet. I'll let people know the plan ahead of time (or there'll be signage on-site).
The mixers are a great way to familiarize yourself more with the group and its members. As a reminder, there's no movie portion, only the hanging out part. Old members, new members, and anyone who has wanted to check out the group is welcome! It's just a space for people to socialize, no pressure. See you there!

Project Hail Mary at Showcase Warwick
Showcase Warwick, 1200 Quaker Lane, Warwick, RI, USOkay listen up because this event's going to be a little different. So usually we go someplace after the movie to hang out. But because this is a fairly long movie, and it's on a weeknight, I'm thinking of having the social part happen beforehand. And to make it easier, it'll just be in the area by the bar. You see, we went to Showcase Warwick in November and found out that the area by the bar was a nice spot to hang out. So here we are!
Join us on Tuesday, March 24th for the 7:30pm showing of Project Hail Mary at Showcase Cinemas Warwick. We'll meet in the area by the bar at 6:45pm to have a drink and chat before the movie. And it'll be discount ticket day, so that's great!
In Project Hail Mary, science teacher Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling) wakes up on a spaceship light years from home with no recollection of who he is or how he got there. As his memory returns, he begins to uncover his mission: solve the riddle of the mysterious substance causing the sun to die out. He must call on his scientific knowledge and unorthodox ideas to save everything on Earth from extinction… but an unexpected friendship means he may not have to do it alone.
Meet by the area by the bar at 6:45pm. We'll head into the theater when it starts at 7:30pm and meet outside the door when it's over to reconnect. Feel free to sit wherever you want inside the theater. Let me know if you have any questions!
