Going to the movies used to be a thing I did by myself. But lately I've rediscovered how much fun it is to go with friends and to talk about it with them afterwards. So, here we are!
Providence Movie Club is a group where we'll go to a movie and then grab a drink after it's over to hang out and chat. I'm pretty omnivorous with my movie taste, so one week we could see something at the Avon, and the next be front and center at Morbius. Post-movie will change as well and hit bars, coffee shops, breweries, boba tea places, etc.
Don't worry about being a film expert or anything. I imagine conversations will go like most book clubs where you talk about the book for seven minutes and then everyone drops it.

Movie Club Mixer at The Red Door
Red Door, 49 Peck St, Providence, RI, USSometimes I don't have anything creative to say at the beginning. It's another month, another mixer, another trip to The Red Door in Providence!
The mixers are a great way to familiarize yourself more with the group and its members. As a reminder, there's no movie portion, only the hanging out part. Old members, new members, and anyone who has wanted to check out the group is welcome! It's just a space for people to socialize, no pressure.
The event will start at The Red Door at 7:00pm on Wednesday, October 15th. It'll go on as long as people are around, though the official end time will be 10:00pm. I'll have a pile of name tags on a table for everyone to help differentiate who's there for the mixer and who's just there. The Red Door has alcoholic and non-alcoholic options available, as well as a full menu of food. The mixer will be in the upstairs area.

PVDonuts and After the Hunt
Providence Place Cinemas, 10 Providence Pl, Providence, RI, USI want you all to pay attention to this part. We're switching up the format for this event and doing the post-movie thing FIRST. Yup, they said it'd never happen. They said he wouldn't do something quiet, non-alcoholic, and during the day. But oh-ho-ho look at us now. Look............................................at..............................................................us...........................................................................now.
Join us on Sunday, October 19th for PVDonuts and to see After the Hunt! We'll meet at PVDonuts at 12:30pm for donuts and hanging out. Then, depending on how we feel, we could walk or drive to the Providence Place Showcase for the movie. We'll be going to the 2:50pm screening of After the Hunt. Feel free to sit wherever you want inside the theater. We'll meet outside the door when it's over to reconnect.
Right, the plot summary. After the Hunt is a psychological thriller directed by Luca Guadagnino and written by Nora Garrett. Starring Julia Roberts, Ayo Edebiri, Andrew Garfield, Michael Stuhlbarg and Chloë Sevigny, it follows Alma, a college professor caught in between a sexual abuse accusation involving one of her students and a colleague.

Bodies Bodies Bodies at Moniker Brewery
Moniker Brewery, 432 W Fountain St, Providence, RI, USBack in June, we partnered with local group Queers and Beers of Rhode Island for a screening of But I'm a Cheerleader at ISCO Spirits. It was a great night and tons of fun. Because the Pride screening went so well, both groups were really keen on partnering for another event in the future. Now October/spooky season is coming up, so what better time to join forces again? To celebrate Halloween, we're screening Bodies Bodies Bodies at Moniker Brewery with Queers & Beers of Rhode Island!
In an isolated family mansion, a group of rich 20-somethings decides to play Bodies Bodies Bodies, a game where one of them is secretly a “killer” while the rest tries to “escape.” Things take a turn for the worse when real bodies start turning up, setting off a paranoid and dangerous chain of events.
Join us on Thursday, October 30th for a 7:00pm screening of Bodies Bodies Bodies with Queers & Beers of Rhode Island! The event will start at 6:00pm for people to mingle and have some drinks. Then the movie will start around 7:00pm-ish. This will be an outdoor screening in Moniker's back courtyard. I'm pretty sure the picnic tables will be available to us, but feel free to bring your own chair.
No tickets required, but like always, maybe buy a drink or two to support Moniker. See you then!

Movie Song Karaoke at The Dusty Planet
The Dusty Planet, 39 Troy Street, Providence, RI, USAll of us had so much fun at the last Movie Song Karaoke event in August that I thought it'd be a good idea to make it a recurring event. So we're heading back to The Dusty Planet for another edition of Movie Song Karaoke!
The event will start at The Dusty Planet at 7:00pm on Friday, November 21st. The event ends at 11:00pm. All of this is pretty casual. If you want to sing a song, there's an app where you can put your song in and also see the queue. This is an event open to the public, but if you're coming for Movie Club, try to stay on theme and sing a song from a movie. Basically if it's used in a movie, it's fair game.
The Dusty Planet will also have a Secret Song. If the Secret Song is sung, the singer gets two free rounds of golf. There will be trivia about the Secret Song throughout the night to help with solving it. And I'll probably also do a Movie Club Secret Song with attached prize. Sooo two ways to win that night!
The bar sells concessions such as candy, chips, snacks, and soft drinks, alongside a rotating menu of beer, wine and canned cocktails. It's also nice because if you're not really into karaoke, they have a few arcade cabinets/pinball machines and a 9-hole miniature golf course to indulge in.
