About us
Going to the movies used to be a thing I did by myself. But lately I've rediscovered how much fun it is to go with friends and to talk about it with them afterwards. So, here we are!
Providence Movie Club is a group where we'll go to a movie and then grab a drink after it's over to hang out and chat. I'm pretty omnivorous with my movie taste, so one week we could see something at the Avon, and the next be front and center at Morbius. Post-movie will change as well and hit bars, coffee shops, breweries, boba tea places, etc.
Don't worry about being a film expert or anything. I imagine conversations will go like most book clubs where you talk about the book for seven minutes and then everyone drops it.

Movie Club Mixer at ISCO Spirits
ISCO, 1 Sims Avenue ##103 Providence, RI 02909, Providence, RI, USLast time we had a mixer at ISCO, it was in March last year and too cold to utilize the outside area. So hopefully we'll have better luck with a mixer in April! We're heading back to ISCO Spirits in Providence for our next mixer in April. It should be a great time!
The event will start at 6:30pm at ISCO Spirits on Thursday, April 23rd. It'll end at 9:30pm. I'll have a pile of name tags on a table for everyone to help differentiate who's there for the mixer and who's just there. Unlike some of our other mixers, ISCO Spirits is primarily a cocktail location. That said, they do have mocktail, non-alcoholic beer, and soft drink options available for you all. If the weather's nice that day, we can even spill out into their outdoor area.
The mixers are a good way to familiarize yourself more with the group and its members. As a reminder, there's no movie portion, only the hanging out part. Old members, new members, and anyone who has wanted to check out the group is welcome! It's just a space for people to socialize, no pressure. See you there!

The Lake with NewportFILM
Avon Cinema, 260 Thayer Street, Providence, RI, USFor April, we're partnering with our friends at NewportFILM for another joint event at the Avon! NewportFILM is presenting The Lake. In this documentary, an environmental nuclear bomb looms in Utah, while two intrepid scientists and a political insider race against the clock to save their home from an unprecedented catastrophe.
Join us on Thursday, April 30th for the 7:00pm showing of The Lake at Avon Cinema. Group places are a little scarce on Thayer, so after the movie, we'll assess the group size and go from there. I'll come with some options in mind.
Tickets will be $15. Meet in the area past the usher and behind the theater seats at 6:40pm. We'll try to sit together as a group. If you're running late, sit wherever you'd like. We'll meet in the same place after it's over. Drop a comment if you have any questions!

The Iron Giant at The Space
The Space, 171 Chestnut St, Suite 200, Providence, RI, USWe're back at The Space, and unlike April, we're able to get together on a Friday night again. This is what the cool kids are doing. Yes, the cool kids are watching 1999's The Iron Giant, directed by Brad Bird. Set during the Cold War in 1957, the film centers on a young boy who discovers and befriends a giant robot of extraterrestrial origin. With the help of beatnik artist Dean McCoppin, Hogarth attempts to prevent the United States military from finding and destroying the Giant.
Join us on Friday, May 8th for a 7:00pm screening of The Iron Giant at The Space. Doors open at 6:45pm, and we'll start the movie around 7:00ish. For anyone interested, we'll probably go someplace afterwards to keep the night going!
Unlike some of our other screenings, this one is a free event. And, just like our AS220 screenings, you're free to bring a chair of your own if you'd like. Fargo at AS220 Black Box
AS220 Black Box Theater, 95 Empire Street, Providence, RI, USAh what better film to celebrate the incoming warm weather than [checks notes] Fargo??? That was a joke btw. For our May screening at AS220, we're showing 1996's Fargo, written and directed by the Coen brothers. Frances McDormand plays police chief Marge Gunderson, who investigates after a car salesman, Jerry Lundegaard (William H. Macy), hires two dimwitted criminals to kidnap his wife to extort a ransom from her wealthy father.
Join us on Wednesday, May 27th for a 7:00pm screening of Fargo at the AS220 Black Box theater. Doors open at 6:45pm, and we'll start the movie around 7:00ish. For anyone interested, we'll go to the AS220 bar afterwards to hang out (or someplace else downtown depending on the mood).
This is a ticketed event, and tickets are $7 each. You can pay with cash or card at the door. AS220 will soon have a preorder link up as well if you want to go down that route. Feel free to drop a comment if you get lost or have any questions. The Black Box theater is located at 95 Empire Street in downtown Providence, to the right of the AS220 bar.
