About us
Going to the movies used to be a thing I did by myself. But lately I've rediscovered how much fun it is to go with friends and to talk about it with them afterwards. So, here we are!
Providence Movie Club is a group where we'll go to a movie and then grab a drink after it's over to hang out and chat. I'm pretty omnivorous with my movie taste, so one week we could see something at the Avon, and the next be front and center at Morbius. Post-movie will change as well and hit bars, coffee shops, breweries, boba tea places, etc.
Don't worry about being a film expert or anything. I imagine conversations will go like most book clubs where you talk about the book for seven minutes and then everyone drops it.
See you at the movies!

Rashomon at The Space
The Space, 171 Chestnut St, Suite 200, Providence, RI, USIt's Saturday night, and I know what the people want. The people are crying out for weekend Akira Kurosawa! Right? Anyone? Okay, yeah, I see you!
A riveting psychological thriller that investigates the nature of truth and the meaning of justice, Rashomon is widely considered one of the greatest films ever made. Four people give different accounts of a man’s murder and the rape of his wife, which director Akira Kurosawa presents with striking imagery and an ingenious use of flashbacks. This eloquent masterwork and international sensation revolutionized film language and introduced Japanese cinema—and a commanding new star by the name of Toshiro Mifune—to the Western world.
Join us on Saturday, August 22nd for a 7:30pm screening of Rashomon at The Space. Doors open at 7:15pm, and we'll start the movie around 7:30ish. For anyone interested, we'll head someplace afterwards to keep the night going.
Unlike some of our other screenings, this one is a free event. Feel free to drop a comment if you get lost or have any questions. The Space is located at 171 Chestnut St, Suite 200, Providence, Rhode Island 02903.
PARKING: If you're not parking on the street, The Space's parking lot is behind the building and accessible from Elm street. Their lot has white lines between the spaces.

The Princess Bride in Dexter Park
Armory Park, 73 Dexter Street, Providence, RI, USLast summer we partnered with the West Broadway Neighborhood Association (WBNA) for an outdoor screening in Dexter Park in Providence. It was a wonderful event and everyone had a great time. So this year, WBNA reached out about doing TWO outdoor screenings in Dexter Park. There'll be one in September, and then there's this one coming up on the 29th. The movie we're playing is the much-beloved The Princess Bride!
A high-spirited adventure that pits true love against inconceivable odds, The Princess Bride has charmed legions of fans with its irreverent gags, eccentric ensemble, and dazzling swordplay. A kid (Fred Savage), home sick from school, grudgingly allows his grandfather (Peter Falk) to read him a dusty storybook—which is how we meet the innocent Buttercup (Robin Wright, in her breakout role), about to marry the nefarious Prince Humperdinck (Chris Sarandon) though her heart belongs to Westley (Cary Elwes). The wedding plans are interrupted, however, by a mysterious pirate, a vengeful Spaniard, and a good-natured giant, in a tale full of swashbuckling, romance, and outrageously hilarious spoofery. Directed by Rob Reiner from an endlessly quotable script by William Goldman, The Princess Bride reigns as a fairy-tale classic.
Join us on Saturday, August 29th for a 7:20pm outdoor screening of The Princess Bride in Dexter Park. A lot of people come to WBNA events, and judging from the RSVPs from our other outdoor events, people love outdoor movies. Because of that, I'm going to say that we should meet in the park at 6:30pm to hang out and find a spot together. I'll put in the comments where we are the day of.
I'm pretty sure we'll have popcorn and hot chocolate for sale. There will not be seats, though, so it's up to you to provide your own chair or blanket. It's also a free event. See you there!
