Join Max Ghenis and Nikhil Woodruff, the founders of PolicyEngine, for an informative, hands-on workshop. This event is tailored for economists and policy analysts, although all are welcome. Explore computational tax policy analysis using PolicyEngine's web app and Python package. No prior knowledge or software is required, and the event is free to attend. Please bring a laptop to fully participate.
Agenda
- Tutorial: Crafting effective marginal tax rate schedules for a household, including both state and federal taxes and benefits
- Tutorial: Estimating the distributional impacts of custom policy reforms
- Tutorial: Utilizing autogenerated Python code for marginal tax rate schedules
- Exercise: Calculating the distribution of marginal tax rates via microsimulation
- Final boss: Design your own custom reform and analyze its impact on the distribution of marginal tax rates
The workshop will take place at the National Tax Association Annual Meetings in Denver, Colorado, but conference registration is not required. We'll convene at the Mt. Princeton room at Grand Hyatt Denver conference hotel. Pizza and drinks will be provided, so come ready to engage and enjoy!
