For the third and final time we continue to dive into the book about upper Amazon shamanism: "Singing to the Plants. A Guide to Mestizo Shamanism in the Upper Amazon." by Stephan V Beyer. Released June 30th, 2010.
The first two discussions started off with specific topics related to the book, but within 5 minutes took on fascinating lives of their own. This time I’d like to seed the discussion with the question on how to view ayahuasca tourism and integration/collision of indigenous traditions with western civilization, to which the third part of the book is mostly devoted.
Come join us in the freewheeling discussion of related issues even if you didn’t read the book.
About the book:
PCOD book club will allow you to look into a window into the vast universe of ayahuasca. The author is an anthropologist who did his research by going through the training and “certification” of becoming an ayahuasca shaman in the tradition practiced by the people of the upper Amazon near Iquitos, Peru. The book largely follows his training by two shamans going deep into the “science” and the magic . It also examines impact of people like us who come there for ayahuasca journeys. I’d like to see if we could discuss how our own experiences with ayahuasca and other psychedelics compare to what we learn in the book. I have some interesting things to say and probably so will you.
