The Role of Music in the Psychedelic Experience
Details
Music has played a central role in psychedelic experiences for centuries. In the past decade, empirical research has finally been done to examine the magnitude and nature of the impact of music on the therapeutic effect of psychedelics.
### Objectives
This is a peer-led event, so we welcome input from YOU on the design of this event.
To start, we will review recent data assessing the influence of music on the psychedelic experience and clinical outcomes of psychedelic therapy.
The second topic will be a discussion on the value of following or appropriating indigenous traditions and music, exploring how more modern institutions, such as John Hopkins researched the impact of their famous playlist (comprised mostly of classical music) on participants. Then, there will be a discussion on what makes music well-suited for a positive set & setting, and the benefits and risks of identifying music from one's own culture instead of using music from foreign or ancient cultures.
Please bring your favorite playlists and we will coordinate an exchange of music well-suited to positive psychedelic experiences from a wide range of backgrounds.
