Alembic presents the first public showing of D*pe De@ler: A Matter of Dosage (the Rough Cut), by drug edutainer Sheldon Norberg. Directed by Oakland filmmaker Jacob Nasim and filmed before an audience of psychedelic and cannabis industry thought leaders, this hilarious solo performance dives into the cultural archetype of the dope dealer through lens of a psychedelic medicine circle.
Norberg’s youthful reminiscence will immerse you in the thrill of exposing drug war myths and exploring consciousness, the pitfalls of masking emotional pain behind a chemically inflated persona, and into the ego-splintering chaos of an LSD- and nitrous-fueled search for... God? With Art Direction and Animation by Renee Reeser, this films rated I — for INSANE!
With post show Q&A led by Erik Davis.
All ticket sales from this rare showing benefit the Berkeley Alembic, with proceeds matched by Alembic board vice president Sravana Borkataky-Varma. Your laughter keeps the Alembic cooking.
Sheldon Norberg is an American author, performer, theatrical producer, entrepreneur and filmmaker, best known for his autobiographical book and solo-performance, Confessions of a Dope Dealer, the film version of which, DOPE DEALER: A Matter of Dosage, you will be the first (and possibly only) to see.

True, Sheldon CAN be Boring (see below) >>>
Co-creator of Dick Dines Out and The Underworld Opera Company in the late 80s, he left the stage to pursue his interests in consciousness and health, earning his BA in Psycho-Spiritual Healing from SF State University. His concurrent study of Chinese Medicine, attendance at SF Medical Society lectures, and work with San Francisco’s nascent marijuana clubs led to a deepened interest in its health benefits, history, government vilification, and anti-scientific elimination by the pharmaceutical industry, all of which led him to pen his book, launch his performance, and build his career as a Progressive Drug Educator, a near impossible task in the Bush 2 era.
In 2006 he took over as Inventory Manager for the newly opened Harborside Health Center, and claims responsibility for their growth from 100-500 patients a day before quitting to form Solar and LED companies. Returning to medicinal cannabis he became Policy Chairman of California Growers Association in 2016, steering much of the legislation leading up to the legalization of Medical Marijuana, and helped draft the Reform CA initiative, which was undermined by Control, Tax, and Regulate Marijuana initiative, which he fought tirelessly (Stop Prop 64), but which ultimately ended his career and “legal” live rosin business. He remains a vocal critic of poor cannabis policy, which has undermined the potential of medicinal marijuana and industrial hemp.
A Certified Hypnotherapist, he has trained with Stan Grof in Holotropic Breathwork, Ralph Metzner in Alchemical Divination, and Jose Stevens in Power Path Shamanism Studies. A proud and concerned parent of two young adults, he hopes that leading a nuanced conversation about how we use mind-manifesting substances can lead to better policies and practices.
Disambiguation – As a long-time meditator and consciousness explorer, Sheldon has also developed a career as a “Paranormal Remediator,” the work of which he chronicled in his second book, “Healing Houses.”
