Big Nudes From Little Lights: Great Results With Portable Flash

Small flash units do big work, no doubt about it. “Small” flash units in this case will be the kind that can attach directly to the camera. We’ll use some attached to the camera, yes, and others will be remote, or “off-camera” flash (OCF).
“Big work” in this session will mean creating images with one of the West’s most dazzling art models, Dasha U. We will use on-camera flash, remote flash, both combined, plus grids, color gels, and DIY snoots. We will experiment with High-Speed Sync, bounce flash, and combining ambient with flash.
Dasha will offer figure studies for front-lighting, “window” side lighting, rim lighting, backlighting, and silhouettes. Studies will include one-, two-, and three-light setups.
Most of the session will apply to all brands/models of portable flash. We will also have on hand several Godox flash units and remote controllers for Canon, Nikon, and Sony with brief coverage of some of their unique features. We will also discuss and demo the use of “dumb” radio remote triggers.
This workshop will include a mix of light sources, flashes and radio remote controls to illustrate the range of options that can be created. The gear used will adapt to any camera with a flash shoe. The knowledge gained will apply to all other brands of flash.
--Participants may also bring their own portable flash units if they wish.

Len Cook has been a leader in teaching photography around the bay area for decades. He is an expert at concise, and easy-to-understand instruction in a range of photography and lighting techniques. His experience as a photojournalist, chief photographer, and director of photography with a staff of 13 photographers adds to Len's leadership credentials. Len Cook has 20+ years experience as a photojournalist and chief photographer, 8 years college teaching photo, and more than 200 Meetup teaching sessions with amazingly enthusiastic reviews.
