About us
PyData Hull is an educational program of NumFOCUS, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. We provide a forum for the local community of users and developers of data analysis tools to share ideas and learn from each other. Our meetups promote discussion of best practices, new approaches, and emerging technologies for data management, processing, analytics, and visualization. We welcome data scientists, researchers, students, and professionals working with Python, R, Julia, and other open-source tools.
Whether you're a seasoned practitioner or just starting your data science journey, PyData Hull offers a supportive environment for learning, networking, and collaboration in the vibrant Hull tech community.
The PyData Code of Conduct governs this meetup (http://pydata.org/code-of-conduct.html). To discuss any issues or concerns, please contact the NumFOCUS Code of Conduct Working Group or group organizers.
Please let us know if you need any additional information. We're eager to get started and committed to building a strong PyData community in Hull!

Talk: Giving AI a Job: The Real-World Rise of Autonomous Agents
We are all familiar with AI that can write emails or answer questions. But what happens when artificial intelligence is given the tools to actually do things? The tech industry is rapidly shifting from passive chatbots to "Agentic AI" that are the systems designed to autonomously execute real-world tasks, from managing complex databases to processing safety logs.
This talk explores the mechanics of how giving an AI a "memory" and a set of "tools" changes everything. Using practical examples that bridge university research and commercial industry needs, we will demystify how these autonomous systems function behind the scenes, without relying on heavy engineering jargon.
Crucially, we will also confront the risks: what happens when a harmless AI "hallucination" turns into a serious system failure? Whether you are a student exploring the future of technology or an industry professional curious about the next wave of automation, you will leave with a clear understanding of how AI is evolving to take action safely.CODE OF CONDUCT
