Agenda
17:30: Networking and Refreshments
18:00: Welcome & Icebreaker
18:15: Speaker 1 - Suze Hawkins (Senior Data Scientist at Hippo), ‘Do you need AI, or do you need a reporting dashboard?’
Giving a realistic account of the challenges of data science delivery and how to overcome them, this talk will explain how AI and ML projects differ in their design to typical engineering projects, and practical solutions to make the most of a proof of concept. Maybe you’re a business leader wondering why you’ve still not seen a finished AI product, a delivery manager confused about why data exploration is spilling into another sprint, or even a data scientist looking for group therapy - this is an honest account of problems you can see along the way and pragmatic steps you can take to ease the pain. It also raises the question: is a complex AI product going to solve the business problem, or is there a more simple solution to try first?
18:45: James Spence (Engineering Manager at Smoothwall by Qoria), ‘Qoria: Unlocking Potential - Creating a safer online for children’
Qoria is a global technology company, dedicated to keeping children safe and well in their digital lives. This talk will explore our mission, an overview of our most impactful services and how we get value from our data to support 24 million (and counting) children across the world to be safer online.
19:30: Wrap-up & Drinks in Brew Society
If you have been before, we look forward to seeing you again and if you're coming along for the first time, we're excited to meet you and for you to join the Leeds PyData Community.
