PyDataMCR March Talks
Continuing to kick this year off with some more great talks we are hosted this month by Slalom Consulting.
THE TALKS
From Jupyter Notebook to an installable Python Package by Slobodan Cicic
Jupyter Notebooks are great for quick prototyping, although not that great in production environments. Still, many of us use them in production. If we want to make our code easier to understand, have to pass mandatory tests before pushing it to production, or just wanted to Open Source it, we have to package it properly.
We will see how to convert a Jupyter Notebook into an installable Python Package and discuss what are potential use next steps.
Slobodan is a Data Engineer and Data Science Researcher at Horsefly Analytics. Before becoming a data scientist, Slobodan was physicist, trying create high efficiency solar cells and save the planet from global warming. After giving up on the world, he switched to data science. Having learned a lot from the community, he is now trying to give back.

Scalable ML with Apache Spark - A Brief introduction of Databricks ML by Yumeng Sun
We will be covering why we chose this topic and the common functions we use for ML such as missing data imputations, model training and registry, feature engineering etc.
Yumeng is a Data and Analytics Consultant at Slalom, working with
Data Engineering/Cloud Computing/Machine Learning.
Before entering the world of data, Yumeng’s career was built around finance and business. For the past few years, she witnessed the impacts of data towards core business strategies and decided to explore further. She has now been working as a data professional for 3 years, client portfolio including ASOS, Johnson Matthey and Shell Energy.
