PyLadies X PyBerlin : TOR & other tools for Internet safety for women & everyone

Details

We are excited to bring you this event in collaboration with the PyBerlin community. By joining forces for events like this we hope to create a safe space for all members of the Python community and increase diversity within it.

Nowadays, most of our lives are online: friendship, dating, shopping, work, activism and many other activities. Maybe no one has warned you that our online life needs as much care and attention as our life off the web.

In times of excessive mass surveillance, data collection, harassment, cyber bullying, trolls, doxxing, net neutrality in danger among so many other threats, it becomes more than necessary to know how to protect yourself and the people we love through learning about privacy and security in digital media.

Privacy and security in digital media is not only about our individual concerns, it is a necessary right to enable a more open, health, safe, and diversified internet.

In this meeting our invitees will teach you how to be more aware and learn about viable alternatives for privacy and security issues that afflict our digital lives.

Hacktivism in order to improve women’s lives in their careers and personal life.

20:40 - 20:50 Prototype presentation. Chrome extension against woman harassment

Amnesty International’s latest report suggested that over three-quarters of women and girls expected violence and abuse if they expressed an opinion online. The U.N. Broadband Commission tells us that one in five young women has been sexually harassed online. This extends to many other stigmatized communities such as LGBTQi. This has got to stop, and I’m hoping to build a tool to do just that.

Speaker: Teresa Ingram, Pyladies Berlin host. Python was her first love but life led her to working with Java she is now plunging back into the Python world.

20:50 - 21:00 Implementing online payer authentication with safety and user-experience as priorities.

N26 is a bank that is completely hosted in the cloud and gives users control over their finances from their smartphone. In this talk we will explore how we implemented the 3DS Mastercard SecureCode protocol (also known as online payer authentication) with safety and user-experience as priorities. In particular we will look at the python micro-service we developed to identify high risk transactions and flag them for 2-factor authentication.

Speaker: Gráinne Mcknight. Data Scientist at N26. As a data scientist at N26 for the past year Gráinne has worked on N26's Chatbot project, a Geolocation Service and now Financial Crime. Gráinne loves questions (both asking and answering them)!
