Title: Durable Python: from running custom SQS workers and Celery to Temporal
My background: I work as a software development consultant predominantly with startups.
I wanted to share my experience with getting to a reliable solution for background execution in a modern Python web app. Setting up Cron jobs or Celery is easy, but when you get your application to production, a lot of unexpected issues come up: lack of observability in a greenfield project may lead to failed jobs, inconsistent state, and other typical problems. Temporal solves this by introducing replayable workflows and separating side‑effects into activities.
