What is Oncology Qigong?
It is a gentle and nourishing class for mind, body, and spirit, geared specifically to helping cancer patients on their healing journey. Survivors, family members and caregivers are welcome as well.
This special Qigong class is a low-intensity, mind-body practice—often done sitting or standing—that combines gentle movements, breathing, guided meditation, and focused intention to cultivate and balance one's "Qi" (pronounced "chi"). Qi is our life force energy according to Traditional Chinese Medicine principles.
What are the benefits of Oncology Qigong?
- Reduced fatigue and improved energy: It helps alleviate cancer-related fatigue
- Better symptom management: Decreases pain, inflammation, anxiety, depression, stress, mood disturbances, and sleep issues; may also enhance immune function and lower cortisol levels.
- Enhanced physical function: Improves muscle strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, lung function, and overall physical ability, which can help counteract treatment-induced weakness or disability.
- Improved quality of life: Boosts mood, cognitive function (e.g., attention and processing speed), spiritual well-being, and overall health.
