What we’re about
Queer and Trans Classical Misfits is a hopeful a gathering place for those of us with "conservative" tastes and queer-as-hell everything else. Classical music is famously home to many queers of the cisgendered White male variety, but for many of us, classical music is an indispensable source of joy too often enveloped in inhospitable, alienating forms of culture. Don't make me turn in my angry radical leftist card to go to the opera! (We're here, we're queer, our seats are far rear!)
Cis-friends and allies: If you, too, find yourself bound to classical music but alienated from its cultural institutions by other difference such as race, ability, religion, class background, being an angry socialist, etc., please come! You're part of this. There is no way forward but together.
First order of business is to find each other; then maybe we plan some listening sessions, concert outings, theory reading groups, informal performances, and salon-type discussions.
