What we’re about
This is a group for people interested in contributing to the code and documentation that gets distributed as base R.
We hold online and in-person events, such as
- Contributor Office Hours: monthly drop-in online sessions to help people get started with contributing to R. Discuss work in progress or work together on open bugs/missing translations.
- Collaboration Campfires: online sessions for newcomers to learn more about contributing to R and to work collaboratively on activities to build knowledge and skills in this area.
- Bug BBQ: a global, online event over 24 hours for both new and experienced contributors to address open bugs on R’s bug tracker.
- One-off events such as sprints and translation hackathons.

•OnlineC Study Group - cohort 2
OnlineStudy group meeting once a month for existing/aspiring R contributors who want to gain/refresh basic skills in C programming.
The main study materials are from the C sessions of CS50, Harvard's Introduction to Computer Science. This will be supplemented with a chapter from Deep R Programming on R's C API.

There are other cohorts meeting at 11am-12am Sydney time on Thursdays (cohort 2) and 12pm-1pm on Fridays (cohort 3) if this time is not so convenient.4 attendees
•HybridR Dev Day @ Australia 2025: Monash University / Virtual / Local Hubs
Monash City Campus, 750 Collins Street, Melbourne, AUHybrid event at Monash University, Melbourne, Australia, with places allocated by external registration only.
Participants can choose to join in-person at Monash City Campus, Melbourne, or online. Where there are a few people joining virtually in the same town/city, we will reach out to see if you want to meet up locally.
The R Dev Day is an opportunity for novice and experienced contributors to learn more about contributing to base R and to work collaboratively on contributions to code, documentation and translations in base R, or to infrastructure that supports such contributions.
Registration is free and open until Sunday 16 November 2025 (23:59 AEST), or until places are filled, register via Pretix.
