Olympia Discussion: Remembering Who You Were Before the Shoulds

Details

Welcome to this week’s women’s circle! Tonight, we’ll focus on connection and self-discovery. We’ll begin with a fun icebreaker to set the tone and get to know one another better. From there, we’ll explore the evening’s topic, 'Remembering Who You Were Before the Shoulds: Who Were You Before the World Told You Who to Be?,' through open discussion, sharing our thoughts, and reflecting on personal experiences. This gathering is a space to connect, grow, and be inspired by one another’s journeys. We’ll close with a moment to set intentions, leaving with fresh perspectives and a sense of support. Let’s dive in and make this time meaningful together!

Below is the "Mindful Musing" for the week which includes our Main Topic and some questions for us to explore together!

Before the resumes and relationships, before the filters and fitting in—there was a version of you who was wild, honest, and untouched by the noise.

She sang without checking if she was off-key. She dreamed without wondering if it was practical. She wanted things—not to impress anyone, but because they lit her up. And then… came the shoulds.
You should be nice. You should be quiet. You should be grateful. You should not want so much. You should grow up and be realistic.
So you adapted. You buried the desires that didn’t fit. You performed the version of yourself that would get approval, attention, safety. But underneath all of that? She’s still there.

This session is about excavating joy, curiosity, and the desires that were silenced in the name of survival. It's not about going backward—it’s about coming home to the parts of you that never stopped whispering, “Remember me?”

You are not too late to become the version of yourself who feels fully alive.

### Discussion Questions

  1. As a child, what made you feel most free, creative, or alive?
  2. What “shoulds” have shaped your life path, and which ones are you ready to let go of?
  3. What parts of yourself did you silence to be accepted, chosen, or seen as “successful”?
  4. What’s a dream or desire you’ve dismissed as unrealistic—but secretly still want?
  5. Who do you become when you're trying to be "good enough"?
  6. When do you feel most like yourself now—and what makes those moments possible?
  7. What would play or pleasure look like if you removed all guilt and productivity pressure?
  8. What do you want—not what you should want, but what your soul craves?
  9. What version of yourself are you mourning or missing right now?
  10. If you stopped trying to be palatable and started being powerful, what would you reclaim?
