About us
Hi, I'm Anneke. I'm a mom of two girls (8 and 12), and I spent nearly 7 years as a researcher at a major social media company — the last two focused on youth well-being (age gating, parental controls).
I'm starting this group because I want what I think a lot of us want: a few local parents to actually talk with about raising kids in this tech-heavy environment. Strategies for social media and AI, what's working, what's not, what everyone else seems to be doing. Comparing notes over coffee, mocktails, cocktails, whatever people prefer.
Who this is for: Parents of middle schoolers and young teens, mostly — but honestly anyone is welcome. Whether your kid has zero apps, every app, or you're somewhere in the confusing middle, you'll fit in here. Whether you are confused over how to supervise, have it all figured out, or are somewhere in the middle. I'm specifically hoping for a mix of approaches so we can all learn from each other. As much as I've had professional experience, I am still figuring it all out in my own parent journey.
What to expect: Casual conversation, making new friends, exchanging what's worked. Bonding over how genuinely uncertain the world is with AI and so many apps on these phones. I'm happy to share some of the strategies I use with my own kids, and I'd love to hear yours.
Full disclosure: I'm also starting a nonprofit/PBC (clarastandards.org) focused on children's digital safety — but that's not what this group is about. I'm doing this because I want local community and real friendships with people navigating the same stuff. We're all figuring this out together. Of course professional connections can be fun, too, but I am creating this group to build up my private "village".
Come say hi.
