Anyone is more than welcome to come just to hang out and have some fun. This will be a covered dish event. Please bring a dish, snack items, or desert to share with the group. Please post in the comments section which food, snack item, covered dish, etc. you plan to bring to share with the group so we can avoid any duplication that may occur.
Unknown phenomena have inspired some of our oldest myths and legends (think of Zeus’s lightning). Join us to trace the sinister history of three modern Halloween monsters with a modern scientific eye to discover the origins of witches, vampires and zombies. Each story has a real life connection to a food that can be part of a Halloween dinner! About Our Speaker Dr. Roland Kays is the director of the Biodiversity lab at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences and a Professor in the Department of Forestry and Environmental Resources at NC State University. He is on Twitter @RolandKays and shares his zoological research results at RolandKays.com.
Mark your calendars and plan to attend this fun-filled evening of life-size games, a retro-themed candy bar stocked with your favorite sweet treats from chilhood, local libations from Trophy Brewing Company—and a screening of Disney Pixar's Toy Story! Cue Burger Food Truck will be on site for delicious snacks and dinner for purchase. Free activities for general admission guests take place in the museum lobby, Daniels Auditorium, and the Museum Shop, where they can taste some of the North Carolina wines available for sale. In addition, on Level 3, our new Toy Boom! exhibit (also free) will be open for all visitors. MOHA/museum members can enjoy one hour (6–7 p.m.) of Putt-Putt & Pilsners, as well! Learn more: bit.ly/2IH0bNW We will officially meet up at 6pm by the information desk in the lobby. Then go up to the exhibit. What does H2O mean or what is the closest planet to Earth? Come and find out. There will be similar questions asked and answered at the Museum of Natural Sciences Science Trivia Night. On the first Thursday of the month the museum has science trivia at the Daily Planet Cafe. You do not have to be a science geek, just come and have a good time. If you are a science geek then this might be something for you to enjoy and also help out the group. NO smart phones or phone a friend or tablets. (alias 'no lookups' :D ) If it feels like cheating, then it probably is. Cheating means disqualification for the team. Science Trivia starts at 7 pm but please be there as close to the requested start time for this meetup as you can make it since seating is very limited. If you arrive after the 6:30 start time you may not have a seat, if you arrive after 7 you may find yourself sitting out and only observing. Please update your RSVP when anything changes so we can get a head count on how many chairs to save at the table. Teams are limited to eight people per team so if more than eight people RSVP will will divide into two teams. If we have eight players at 7 pm we will have one team and late arrivals will have to form their own team or sit out. Please RSVP to this event if you want to go.
