Kamandurg Trek
Details
Kamandurg is the second-highest fort in the Thane district, standing proudly within the vast and verdant Tungareshwar forest range.
The trail to the fort meanders through a thick forest, requiring us to traverse two mountains. This journey is not merely a hike; it is an adventure that immerses us in the natural beauty of the surroundings. As we ascend, the sounds of chirping birds and rustling leaves accompany us, creating a symphony of nature that enhances the experience. The path is dotted with vibrant flora. The approach to the fort's entrance is quite thrilling, with rock-cut steps carved into the steep terrain, making the trek both challenging and exhilarating. Each step taken brings us closer to the fort, heightening the anticipation of what lies ahead. While there are no ruins at the fort, one can enjoy breathtaking views of the extensive Tungareshwar range and nearby mountains. Historically, Kamandurg was built to protect the trade route along the Ulhas River from Kalyan Creek port.
