Did you know that the most profitable film of all time is Japanese?
If you think all zombie films are horror, think again! This endlessly inventive comedy was made on the tiniest of budgets and with a non-existent marketing campaign, and yet it turned $25,000 into $30m at the box office entirely through word of mouth and universally positive reviews. It still has 100% on Rotten Tomatoes to this day!
Opening with an incredible 40 minute long single take, things go badly for a hack director and film crew shooting a low budget zombie movie when they are attacked by real zombies. Only... is that what's happening? Whatever strange moments you assume are mistakes in the first half are quickly recontextualised in one of the most inventive and hilarious scripts ever written, proving that zombies can be just as funny as they are scary.
